About

Accessibility engineers, not overlay vendors.

Remote-first · Working since 2025

Accessrank exists because most "accessible now" claims on the web are not true. We audit online stores against WCAG 2.2 AA, fix what is actually wrong in the theme and template code, and keep checking so the fix survives the next release. That is the whole business.

01What we do

We run a real audit — automated testing in a real browser, backed by manual review — against your storefront, then we write and ship the code changes ourselves: alt text, contrast, keyboard focus order, form labelling, ARIA that was misused rather than missing, and the dozens of smaller failures that add up on a large catalogue. We monitor afterwards, because a single SKU addition, a new app, or a theme update can quietly reintroduce a violation that was already fixed. Cleaning up markup this way tends to help search visibility too, since accessible structure and crawlable structure overlap more than most teams expect — which is why we report on both.

02Why we do not sell an overlay

An accessibility overlay is a script you add to a page that tries to patch accessibility problems at runtime, without touching your underlying code. It is an appealing pitch — install a snippet, claim compliance — and it does not hold up. The underlying barriers are still there in the markup; the overlay is sitting on top of them, guessing. Regulators and courts have started to treat that gap as a liability rather than a defence: in 2025 the FTC fined the overlay vendor accessiBe $1 million for misleading customers about what its product actually did, and roughly 25% of accessibility lawsuits filed in 2024 involved sites that were already running an overlay widget at the time they were sued. We fix the source instead, because that is the only version of "fixed" that survives a second look.

03How we work

We are a small, remote-first team spread across US and EU time zones. The people who write your remediation patches are the same people who test them — with automated tooling, keyboard-only navigation, and screen readers, not automated scans alone — and the same people who write up the findings in plain English rather than a raw rule dump. We would rather stay small and hands-on than scale a report-only product that leaves the actual fixing to you.

04What we will not claim

  • We will not claim instant or permanent compliance. Conformance is a snapshot of the pages we assessed, at the time we assessed them, and it needs monitoring to stay true.
  • We will not guarantee that remediation prevents a demand letter or lawsuit. It reduces risk; it cannot eliminate it.
  • We are not a law firm, and nothing we publish is legal advice — see our Disclosure.
  • We will not tell you a score alone proves conformance. Automated testing catches a real but limited share of barriers; see how we actually calculate a score on our methodology page.

05Get in touch

If you want a plan for your own store, start with a free scan or talk to sales if you are running Shopify Plus or a multi-brand catalogue. If you would rather work on this problem than buy it fixed, see our open roles.
